Here I go again, doing the solo-cast thing. I bring you: The Electric Chair.

In the wake of the abrupt — and rather unexpected — demise of The Weekly Horror Movie Podcast, there was a rush to keep me involved with the Horror Palace. Crazy. The rest of the crew of TWHMP formed Horror Metropolis (AKA The Bi-Weekly Horror Movie Podcast), and that left me to put on a show of my own. Again. It’s a lot of fun to do this one, as I’m focusing on bringing lots of different people onto the show — actors, directors, writers, musicians, podcasters, and so on.

Some day, when I’m old and depressed and need money really badly, I’m going to write a book about my podcasting “career.” Oh, the stories I have to tell.

But I digress from what I was originally intending this post to be about: telling you about The Electric Chair. The first episode went up last Sunday, and I had the opportunity to talk with actress/model Melanie Robel, who is very talented, and a great person. Every Sunday a new episode will be posted, and I’m having a blast talking with all sorts of great people.

Check out the show, and let me know what you think. I’m making every attempt to behave myself this time around.

I’m working on a standalone web site for the podcast, and I’ll keep you updated on that.

Changes to the Weekly Horror Movie Podcast

As you know, I’ve been a contributor on the wildly successful Weekly Horror Movie Podcast over at the Horror Palace. We just released episode 14, which includes a mighty battle over the original The Last House on the Left, and also a surprising announcement: Jay of the Dead, the current host, is leaving the podcast because of unrelated circumstances.

Before making this announcement, I was approached and asked to take over the show’s responsibilities, and I accepted. Episode 15 has been recorded, and will be posted this Sunday.

I’m honored to be overseeing this fine podcast, and am excited to keep things rolling with Terror Tovey, Doctor Shock and Billchete.

Horror Podcasting – Again

I’ve been podcasting again. It’s an addiction that one doesn’t easily shake.

Since the demise of the Horror Jungle, I’ve been podcasting with a group of men that I love more than life itself. BillChete, Doc Shock, Terror Tovey, and Jay of the Dead are my fellow critics on The Weekly Horror Podcast. Each week we assign movies to each other to watch and critique, and our diverse backgrounds and tastes in horror makes for some great discussion (and arguments).

It’s part of the Horror Palace network, where many other wonderful horror podcasts reside.

And stay tuned for exciting announcements regarding the podcast! You’ll giggle like a little schoolgirl.

No More Horror Jungle

The announcement was just made on the Horror Jungle website: the podcast is no more. I had a wonderful time with the co-hosts, and feel very fortunate that I was able to spend the time with them that I did.

However, that is not the end of my zombie movie reviews and recommendations. I will regularly post to this website, and I also have another podcasting project or two in the making. Keep checking back! Things are very exciting.

Horror Jungle Episode 3

I’ve seen some questions about where listeners can comment on the Horror Jungle podcast. I’m going to start posting to this blog every time a Horror Jungle episode is released, so there’s a place we can talk about the podcast.

On episode 1, I recommended the classic Let Sleeping Corpses Lie (1974). I then recommended Dance of the Dead (2008) on episode 2, and on episode 3 recommended Boy Eats Girl (2006).

Resurrected Blog

My blog is back, sifted from the ashes of the mangled Midnight Corey site. WordPress theme files were in really bad shape, and the database was full of malicious injections. I’ve salvaged most of everything, although you’ll probably notice a few strange things happening with some of the old articles. Thanks for bearing with me as I continue the cleanup.

The Midnight Corey podcast won’t continue. There’s too much controversy, and too many crazy people out there who are taking things way too seriously and who have too much time on their hands. If you’re interested in listening to the podcast, all the episodes are available on the podcast archive page.

My original music is also available again on the music page.

I will still be posting whatever comes to my head, and doing various reviews. Enjoy, all you sensitive Internet people.

My Life Has Changed

You’ll notice that I haven’t been releasing regular podcasts. Or maybe you haven’t. Either way, my lack of Midnight Corey goodness is due to the birth of my son Owen on December 12, 2010.

I will definitely get back to podcasting regularly, and appreciate your patience while I get used to being responsible for a brand new human life.

Zombie Movies?

In the past couple weeks, I’ve been watching everything but zombie movies — with one exception. Most of these are ones I’m planning on reviewing at some point for various podcasts.

Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer (2007)
I probably wouldn’t have given this one a chance if it weren’t for the bubbly exciting review given by my friends on the Horror Etc. podcast.

White Zombie (1932)
I’ve seen this one many times. It’s the only zombie movie I’ve watched lately, and it’s one of the best.

Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus (2009)
Well, I watched most of this. However, the antics of confused, irate podcasters interrupted my viewing of this fine film. But I’m pretty sure I got the gist of what this one has to offer. To be fair, I’ll probably give it another shot.

Phantasm (1979)
Love this movie. Quite possibly the best plot ever. People call this a zombie movie, but I disagree — despite the fact that zombies are in it. Just because zombies appear in the movie, it doesn’t mean that it’s a zombie movie.

Drag Me To Hell (2009)
I finally saw this one. To be honest, I saw the TV trailers before it came out, and although I was excited that it was Sam Raimi, I wasn’t excited about what I saw. To me, it was just a lot of CG. However, I followed the rave reviews I’ve heard about it, and just bought the DVD. I’m glad I did.

Let the Right One In (2008)
One of my favorite vampire movies ever. I bought this DVD at the same time I bought Drag Me To Hell, at the recommendation of KruegerDude.

Them! (1954)
It was on Netflix Instant Watch, so I watched it. I love movies about giant creatures from this era, and these giant ants are classic.

Zombie Movie Reviews

Add one more segment to the lineup: a zombie movie review for Library of the Living Dead. Dr. Pus asked me if I’d be willing to do that on top of the horror movie reviews I’ll be doing for Library of Horror, and once again I’m honored to be a part of something so wonderful.

Just to clarify, Library of the Living Dead is now the longest-running zombie podcast in existence, mainly focusing on the reading of zombie fiction and Dr. Pus’ own brand of songwriting. There are also a variety of other things that pop up on the podcast from time to time, such as reviews, rants, music, you name it. It’s over 100 episodes strong as of this writing.

Library of Horror follows the same format, but is not limited to just zombies. Actually, it’s anything horror except zombies. It just got started, and just released its 2nd episode this past week.

The support I keep getting from podcasters (and listeners) has been astounding. Of course, there are those out there who are bitter and will kick me when I’m down, but that’s to be expected in this cutthroat world of multi-million-dollar podcasting.

More Good News from the Podcasting Front

I have been inundated with responses about the podcast. And you’ve all been wonderful — I had no idea so many of you felt so passionately about the show.

And you know I just can’t stay away from podcasting. I’ve made so many friends over the years, and so many other podcasts have stepped forward and opened their shows to me. As you know, I’ll regularly appear on Dr. Pus’ Library of Horror and Library of the Living Dead podcasts.

I just confirmed that I’ll also be doing a review segment for my friend James Melzer (and see below — we’re also working on a book together) on his monthly podcast UNLEASHED. Check out all of Melzer’s wonderful work here.

Corey’s Eerie Examinations

Podcasting

The Midnight Podcast is dead. However, in talking with another very respected podcaster, it’s very likely that I’ll be contributing a segment to the show. I haven’t worked out the details yet, but as soon as we’ve figured everything out, I’ll be sure to post it.

Right now, I’m watching the 1968 classic Spider Baby — one of my favorites. It’s remarkable how different this is from Night of the Living Dead, which was released the same year. Spider Baby is twisted and somewhat comedic, with a hint of camp. Night, on the other hand, is stark and nihilistic.
